CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT

One standard, one test, one mark (where relevant):
this is the way the world sees the IEC.

Our International Standards for electrotechnology in themselves are valuable for global trade because they provide industry with the tools it needs to be more efficient. IEC conformity assessment adds even more value. Together it's a winning combination to help industry lower its manufacturing costs and enter new export markets.

The IEC's multilateral conformity assessment schemes are based on its International Standards, which are truly global in concept and practice. This reduces trade barriers caused by different certification criteria in different countries. Removing the significant delays and costs of multiple testing and approval allows industry to be faster and cheaper to market with its products.

The three conformity assessment schemes

The IEC has three multilateral conformity assessment schemes: the IECEE, the IECQ and the IECEx. Using IEC standards for certification at the national level ensures that a certified product has been manufactured and type-tested to well-established international standards. The end user can be sure that the product meets minimum (usually high) quality standards, and need not be concerned with further testing or evaluation of the product.
